After a few days of not looking so good, I found Tiger Lilly floating at the top of her bowl this morning. Fortunately, Meital didn't think about feeding her before gan today. So, this afternoon, Marcus went to the pet store and bought Tiger Lilly #2. Meital didn't seem phased to find the new fish in a bag inside the bowl. She didn't even notice the fact that Tiger Lilly #2 has more orange than the original. But she did comment that the fish was bigger. Fortunately, she understands that things grow, so it didn't seem to bother her too much.
I, on the other hand, wonder about whether we did the right thing by sneakily replacing her fish and implicitly lying to her by pretending that the new fish is really the same as the old one. Is such lying better than trying to explain death to a 2.5 year old?
